   Justice League

Three mischievous kids and two superheroes learn that justice is best served with a healthy dose of forgiveness and grace. Living in God’s justice means we are called to the “business” of forgiving others.

Characters: 3 kids, 2 superheroes (who behave and talk like tag-team wrestlers)

Props and Setup: A soccer ball, costumes for the superheroes - cape, masks, tights.

The skit:

Three kids enter and start to play soccer. The game gets increasingly rough, until a boy gets kicked in the shin. The boys shouts, “Hey, that was mean! You kicked me on purpose!” The girl shouts, “You were cheating!” The boy kicks her back. They argue while the third kid tries to break them up. Two superheroes bound onto the scene like goofy tag-team wrestlers. They are wearing capes, tights, and masks. One of them proclaims, “We are the Justice League!” The other exclaims, “Yes, yes! We are superheroes! We have come to administer justice!” The superheroes flex their muscles. One says, “Look at my shiny cape and mysterious mask, does it not strike fear into you? I am the Masked Avenger! I am here to administer justice!” The other superhero chimes in, “Look at me, I am so muscular and with handsome features, see, see! I am called the Crusher! I am here to administer justice also!”

The Avenger says, “Who is being bad today? Tell us and we will administer justice!” The girl points at the boy and shouts, “He kicked me!” The Crusher shouts, “Kicking! Kicking is against the rules!” He grabs the boy’s ear and says, “What shall I do to administer justice? Shall I twist boy’s ear ‘til it hurts? Yes, yes?” The boy cries, “It’s not my fault, she was cheating!” The Avenger grabs the girl and says, “Cheating! Cheating is against the rules also! What shall I do to administer justice? Shall I give girl a wet willy? Yes, yes?” As the Avenger licks his finger, the boy shouts, “Yeah, yeah! Do it!” The girl shouts, “He started it! He swore at the referee for penalizing him!” The Crusher shouts, “Swearing! Swearing is against the rules also! What shall I do to administer justice, shall I give him a snake bite?” He grabs the boy’s arm and gets ready to twist it. The boy shouts, “No, wait a sec! She was worse than that! She copied my answers to the spelling test today!” The Avenger shouts, “Copying! Copying is against the rules also!” The kids yell at each other while the superheroes bound around them.

The third kid shouts, “Stop it! Why don’t we try something else? How about you two try forgiving each other?” After a brief silence, the boy yells, “No way!” The girls shouts, “You got that right! I’m not forgiving you either!” The Avenger shouts, “Wet willy!” The Crusher shouts, “Snake bite!” The kids scream as the scene erupts into an out-of-control tag-team wrestling match. In the midst of the chaos, the boy finally shouts, “Wait a minute! Wait a minute!” Everyone freezes and looks at him. The boy says, “I guess I could forgive you.” The girl says, “Okay, if you will, I will too.” The two kids apologize to each other. The third kid says, “Okay, now hug each other and make up.” They hug. The superheroes become teary-eyed. The Avenger says, “Never have I seen such a beautiful thing!” The Crusher says, “Yes, yes, I weep like a little baby!” He cries loudly. The Avenger says, “We shall now have a group hug, yes, yes?” Everyone hugs. The Avenger says, “Everyone hug!” They encourage the audience to hug each other. The Crusher says, “Hug, hug! Justice has been done here today! Hug, hug, hug!”

The End

Biblical Emphasis: Luke 16:1-10, Matthew 6:12, 1 Cor. 4:1-2, Col. 3:12-15.

Discussion Starters:

1. Share a time when someone forgave you instead of retaliating.
2. Think of one person who is unkind to you. How can you forgive and love that person?
3. What is the “cost” of forgiving others? What are the benefits?
